Spring Message from Dean Berquam
Dear Parents,
We’re almost there! I’m sure your student — whether a senior or a first-year student — is feeling the relief and excitement of being so close to finishing the school year. This year, there will be many opportunities on campus to celebrate the end of the year in a safe and constructive way. Behind the Beat, the Earth Day Challenge, All-Campus Party, and a new student-run arts and music festival, called Revelry, all celebrate the diverse talents and interests of Badgers. I hope you will encourage your student to participate in one or two of these springtime activities while balancing academic responsibilities.
At this time of year, we often observe an increase in alcohol violations and thefts. Both are a concern, and we want to remind students of the potential health and safety risks as well as academic costs. We hope all of our students will celebrate responsibly as the academic year comes to close, and we provide important safety information on the Campus Safety website. We encourage all students to:
- Go out with friends they know and trust. Stay with the group and return home with that group.
- Walk in well-lighted areas.
- If hosting a party, control who enters the residence. Don’t hold an “open” party.
- As always, lock doors and windows — even as the weather begins to get nice.
- When studying in public areas, don’t leave valuables unattended.
I encourage you to have a conversation with your student about his or her plans for the end of the year, if you haven’t already.
On, Wisconsin!
